Support Our Cause

Help us Build Alberta’s First Black Library!

Knowledge Empowers & Strengthens Our Community.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING TO DO?

Our project aims to create an archive of different culture artifacts, films, art, and books that showcases the diverse histories, cultures, accomplishments, and creativity that exist within the Black Community. We are hoping to acquire a physical space where our library will operate. This space will be used for displaying cultural artifacts, signing out books, study space, chill space , and a safe space. BLC hopes that in the future, we will expand and be able to offer spaces for book clubs, book launches, poetry readings, art exhibitions, afterschool programs, mentorship, and cultural events . This library project is not only about connecting people to books but also about connecting people and fostering positive relationships.

WHY IS THIS PROJECT IMPORTANT?

We believe that celebrating our heritage and reading literature with accurate representation that explores various topics besides Black struggles helps us understand who we are, be proud of our cultural heritage, promotes a spirit of compassion, and curiosity to learn more about the cultures and talents that exist within the Black community.
